Every Fall I do a post looking at historical Monsoon rainfall in Tucson, so let’s update it for 2024. This monsoon season was almost exactly average with 5.8 inches of rain (Exhibit 1). Exhibit 2 shows monthly rainfall in 2024 compared to Normal. We started off with a very wet June (it was the 8th best June on record), followed by a very solid July (+54% compared to normal), a mediocre August (-39%) and a total bust of September with 0.12 inches (-91%). Overall, 2024 season was just 2% above normal monsoon rainfall in Tucson.

Exhibit 3 shows a comparison of 2024 season among major Desert Southwest metros. Even with a meagre 2% above normal, Tucson was the only city on the positive side of that line. Phoenix got a mere 0.74 inches all season or 70% below its normal. Things were even worse in Vegas (-92%) and Yuma (-99%). How does 0.01 inches even register? So, another tough year for the region with record high temps and very little rain.
